Weekends are for oxymorons

If Saturday and Sunday are a weekend in North America and most of the western world, than why do Americans insist on starting their week on a Sunday. That makes the word weekend an oxymoron.

Why do Americans have to rub it into everyone’s face that they are special, if they cant do it with grace?!
